The Bottle Neck
Şişenin Boynu
Down in a small street there is a small and a old house. It is in a very bad state. All the people are very poor there. But this old house is the poorest of them all. In front of the house there is a bird cage but it doesn't have any drinking glasses. It has only a neck of a bottle. They cut the bottle from the top and turn it upside down. And put a cork at the bottom. So it becomes a drinking fountain of the cage. An old maid puts some grass on the cage. And the little bird sings lovely songs. At that moment the bottle neck hears the lovely songs of the bird and says:

The bottle neck remembers his birth; the fire and the cold. And the other bottles, like beer bottle and champagne bottle. The workers pack all of them. They fill the bottle with a first quality wine. The wine is really good and the bottle is so. They enjoy it very much. After packaging, a boy who works in a furrier buys the bottle. The boy also buys some cheese and sausages. The daughter of the furrier packs them herself. She is a young and pretty girl. She has brown eyes and a big smile. Her hands are soft and white. She is very beautiful.

She and her friend, a young sailor, go to the forest. The bottle is with them, too. The young man and the beautiful girl talk about their future. The next day the young boy will sail as a mate on a long trip to other countries. They talk about it but the bottle can't hear them very well because it is in the basket. And when they take it out, the bottle thinks:

They take the bottle and the corkscrew. The bottle feels very excited. Because in a few minutes they will take out the cork. The bottle never forgets the sound of the cork with a 'kloop'. And when they finish the wine the young man takes the bottle above his head and says:

And then he throws the bottle into the air. The bottle goes near a lake. After a while two little boys come and take it. They bring it to their mother. Their mother prepares a basket for her older boy who will start a journey soon. She fills the bottle with brandy and gives it to her son, Peter Jensen. Peter brings it to the ship and the bottle comes across with the young man again.

The bottle doesn't contain wine anymore but there is something very special in it. And when Peter takes it out, everybody comes around him to drink some. Soon they drink the entire bottle and throw it to a corner.

After a long time, the weather turns very bad and a big storm comes. The ship can't survive and sinks. But before the ship sinks totally, The young man writes some words on a paper:

He signs the paper with his and his bride's names. And put it into a bottle. Our empty bottle... He doesn't know that it is the bottle from which he drunk wine with his bride. Then he throws it to far away. Soon the ship sinks, but the bottle floats. It goes north and south, east and west. It floats more than a year with the paper in it.

And the long journey of the bottle ends near a foreign country. They take the bottle from the sea and bring it to their house. Now the bottle is in a cupboard. They read the paper several times but they don't understand anything. Every time, when a stranger come, they take the paper out and read it again. But nobody knows the laguage on the paper. The bottle stays there for 20 years. And when the householder rebuilds the house, decides to take the bottle from the cupboard and wash it deeply. After cleaning it, they put corn seeds in it. And they put it far from the moon and the sun light. But the bottle leaves this place and goes to its own country.

There, the people who get it, draw out the cork, empty it and put it in a cellar. The bottle lies in the cellar for years. Then some people come and take all the bottles out of the room. They put it in a lovely garden. There are some special lamps and lanterns in the garden. The bottle stands at the side walk. From that point it sees a couple walking through the path. It starts to think about the young man and his bride. The bottle passes the day with its memories. And at the end of the day, they bring the bottle to the wine merchant's market. There, they fill it with wine again. Then an aeronaut buys it and takes it into his balloon.

In a crowded place, full of spectators the balloon starts to fly. In the balloon there are the bottle and a small rabbit. After a few minutes, the aeronaut lets the rabbit down in a parachute. Thousand of people watch the show. The old maid watches, too. She stands in front of her house where there is the cage but there isn't the drinking fountain yet.
Seyircilerle dolu kalabalık bir yerde balon uçmaya başlar. Balonda şişe ve küçük bir tavşan vardır. Birkaç dakika sonra pilot, tavşanı bir paraşütle aşağı bırakır. Binlerce insan gösteriyi izlerler. And in the balloon the aeronaut drinks the bottle and throws it down. The old maid sees the bottle flying in the air. And remembers the old times, when her lover throws the bottle over her head to the forest.

The bottle flies in the air and falls upon a roof. There, it breaks into pieces. There are many small pieces but only the neck of the bottle is whole.

A man living near there notices the bottle neck and says:
